Inter/Depends

Grey Projects is proud to present Inter/Depends, a reimagination of the mutuality and the provision of care, with and through Amanda Heng’s ongoing research into the capacities of conversation in this time of both pandemic crises and digitalized socialization. Inter/Depends is a sequence of digital activations and printed matter that sees Amanda developing strategies of sustaining care and community with an eye on shaping ourselves around a collective future.

These activations function for Amanda as live performative and digital-first formats for inviting immediate and deferred participation in questions of collective futuring. Unlike the curatorial approach taken with Heng in Singapore Art Museum’s Wiki Clicki presentation, Inter/Depends does not attempt to artificially convert an existing influential work into a highly technologized one, or to digitally transform Heng’s practice, but to demonstrate the ways in which Heng’s concerns and strategies for communicative open-endedness and intangible socialites are already vitally important to how we negotiate our digital commons and the unconscious codes and conscious terms of our screen-based ethics.

You are invited to respond to the following prompts crafted by Amanda Heng, by sending a video or voice note to the chat:

When you chat with someone online, does the exchange feel deep and mutual?

Ideas around dependency became more apparent for me during the pandemic, especially with the kind of isolation that we experienced during the pandemic. It felt like a collective experience yet we were so distant. We each have our own baggage, histories, memories, and all that. How have you negotiated the various dependencies in your life?

Live messaging sessions with Amanda will be available across February 2023. Do register here to take part in this!
Do note that materials from this chat may be used for Amanda’s public artwork.
